VFX Supervisor / Founder Bernie Kimbacher
The Hive was born out of the idea that Visual Effects is ready for a new approach. Our goal is to transform the way we do Visual Effects so it's more in line with industry needs and to create a truly creative and collaborative environment.
The corner stone of the Hive is an entirely cloud based structure. Unlike most studios who execute some parts of their pipeline (like rendering) remotely, we are working exclusively in the cloud. The benefits of being truly cloud based are far reaching: Location independence enables us to hire the best talent around the globe, we can greatly reduce overhead cost which is passed on to our clients via highly competitive bids and we are freely scalable to take on any size project, from commercials to TV to feature films.
The Hive was founded by VFX Supervisor Bernie Kimbacher (LinkedIn, IMDB) in 2019. With 12 years of industry experience and VFX Supervisor titles such as 'Pokemon: Detective Pikachu', 'Skyscraper', 'The Meg' and 'Straight Outta Compton' your project is in capable hands.
The group of artists employed by the Hive grows and shrinks organically with project demand. This is another way we aim to optimize cost efficiency and deliver outstanding imagery to you.
Being a young studio, we are in the process of building a portfolio. While most projects we have worked on so far are still awaiting release, below are a few of the studios we have worked for since we opened our doors.
Our mission at Hive is to create a highly creative, artist-driven environment. Relying on a pool of veteran freelance artists means we can have little to no support staff as every member of the team is able to self manage their workload with the guidance of our VFX Supervisor.
We also aim to create a healthy and sustainable work environment, both inside and outside of our studio. Among other things, Hive has joined the growing family of 1% for the planet at the beginning of 2020.
